FRONT STREET INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT

FRONT STREET INVESTMENT MANAGEMENTOct 30/06 Oct 16/06 Front Street Investment Management Inc. Acquisition in the public market Common Shares 558,200 $1.200 https://www.canadianinsider.com/coReport/allTransactions.php https://www.frontstreet.com/ Happy Hunting ~ 0din ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our investment selection and portfolio management process is based on two beliefs. Buy stocks only when they can be bought at bargain prices. Manage the portfolios no differently than if they were our own. Whether our clients are retired or still actively earning income, our investment decisions are focused on not losing money and trying to achieve reasonable investment returns on a consistent basis. The first goal of not losing money sits above our secondary goal of making it. In fact, that order of priorities drives us to invest in a particular way. We do not ascribe to the view that simply choosing to own a slice of every asset class and essentially fixing our allocations of stocks/bonds/cash will achieve our clients' goals. We believe a more flexible and active approach to investing is required. Before we choose to own a stock, our decision must come from an analysis of the particular company's landscape, its financial statements and its historical financial record. Additionally, we look at its competitive environment and what the company is doing to sell its product or service that will lead to its future success. At times, we are buying the stocks of companies that are managing through some challenges for various and hopefully temporary reasons. At other times, the stocks of our companies may simply be ignored by other investors. Our job is to find 20 to 30 stocks at any one time that meet our criteria of value to price. We will protect our clients' money in safer alternatives until we identify those investment opportunities. As many of our clients understand, bonds are generally not a tool to get rich, but rather a tool to provide predictable income, portfolio stability and financial safety. For nearly or fully retired clients in need of stability and income, we believe bonds are an essential ingredient. Our approach is to fully understand our clients' tax situation and income needs and then manage a portfolio of bonds that fits them. As we build a portfolio of bonds, our job is to analyze various factors such as the current level interest rates, the condition of the macro-economy, our anticipated direction and shape of the yield curve as well as the quality of the bond issuer before we invest. In a typical client's aggregate portfolio, it can be expected that we will invest in 10 to 15 bonds. Over the course of time, we believe a philosophy driven by independent analysis, an understanding of our clients and a strong commitment to price discipline leads to superior investment results.
