New Liberal leader
New Liberal leaderI was one who was totally bored by the whole lead up to the Liberal leadership parade but I have to admit the last few minutes of the game were interesting indeed. As they say "nobody saw this one coming". Personally, I was interested in Gerard Kennedy and I think his move to Dion early on was absloutely astute. I also think, in the end, the Liberal party made the right decision which in itself is amazing considering their most recent history of stepping in it at every opportunity. Now, the point of my little political rant and how this relates to AZD is this - Dion is not that well known to Canadians (which at this pointy is a good thing), he does not have a lot of baggage and he is a consensus buider. He has a young bright ally in Gerard Kennedy who we will see much more of in the future and whoas positioned himself well in his move to Dion. Both are slightly left of centre and will bring back some of that vote to the Liberals from the Green and NDP parties. They are also likely to be much more palatable to many disaffected Liberals who voted Tory as they could not stand the smell of the old Liberal sleaze. Hence, I suspect an election in the spring and I believe we will again see a Liberal gov't. Dion is a committed environmentalist(my God he named his dog Kyoto! - now hopefully he doesn't start talking to the dog to seek out it's counsel ala Mackenzie King!) and as a result I believe we will see some substantial changes in environmetlal and sustainability policy. This bodes very well for companies such AZD and they would do well to start talking to the Liberals and let them know what they are doing. Who knows, maybe it would speed up the gyrations at Canada Post and get them investing in the AZD vehicles. Anyway, I think it is good news for AZD and it did not even come from them.
