Partners with Aruba Networks to Provide Complete Solution to Ohio State University
MECHANICSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 19, 2006) - Versatile Systems Inc. (TSX VENTURE:VV - News) today announced the deployment of one of the world's largest wireless local area network (LAN), at Ohio State University. When the rollout is complete, the network will cover Ohio State University's main campus, which comprises over 400 buildings and 25 million square feet situated on approximately 1,700 acres.

The wireless network leverages Aruba Networks' technology to provide ubiquitous wireless access to the university's student population of over 50,000, in addition to over 27,000 faculty and staff. Ohio State has estimated that over 3,000 Access Points are required for minimal coverage, and up to 10,000 Access Points may be required for optimal coverage, along with over 40 mobility controllers distributed across their three core router points of presence (POPs).
Ohio State University is now in the first year of a five-year project to deploy the wireless network. "Within a mere three weeks, we have been able to activate over 1,700 Access Points in 28 buildings," said Bob Corbin, director of telecommunications and networking, Ohio State University Office of Information Technology. The University expects to complete installation in the 31 residence halls, supporting over 12,000 students, in the next 30 days.
Versatile worked closely with Aruba Networks on this project. Once the wireless network is complete in the residence halls, the University expects to install Access Points in the 400 student gathering areas on the campus. Full deployment is expected by the year 2011 with an estimated 10,000 Access Points in place.
