RE: Investor's Digest Buy RecommendationInvestor's Digest has good readership...but I would not count on this borrowed recommendation (comes from a B.C.based microcap reviewer) to excite too many people.
On the SMTC front, interesting to look at their market cap vs trailing earnings vs sales. I wonder how much stretch on ATQ market cap we can fetch if/when the revenue side moves up substantially (along with earnings).
On a totally different slant, I also wonder how Paul Walker and SMTC parted ways...do I detect that he was shown the door (as opposed to simply leaving)? I did not find much in the press on his departure, but found the the class action suit of 2002 (a year prior his departure) against him and other parties related to SMTC's IPO in 2000.I have no idea where this suit is at, if not resolved already.
I also found this quote from business reporting in '03:
SMTEK International
SMTEK International is now listed on the NASDAQ Small Cap Market under the symbol SMTI and has appointed John Caldwell interim President and CEO replacing Paul Walker.
SMTC is continuing discussions with current and potential lenders and investors to address the pending maturity of its revolving credit facility due in July 2004 and to better position it on a longer-term basis. A transaction resulting from these discussions is likely to involve significant dilution to existing shareholders. I guess SMTK and SMTC are one and the same(?)
SMTC went through a near death experience of their own, as described in this exhaustive SEC filing (at least you get more info in US filings when companies are listed there):

Any SMTC shareholder on this board that could enlighten?
Anywho...Walker appears to have left SMTC (or been booted off the island) when it was in a mess. I am not saying he caused it, but the reference may not be as glowing as it appears in the Adeptron press release (?).
