Latest InfoThe news item seems to indicate that everything is still quite speculative as to waht has killed the birds. I took some comfort from the following: The carbonate was contained for most of the process except for when the conveyor belt dropped it through a chute into the ship. He said air monitoring procedures had been in place since lead exports started. Staff had undergone six rounds of blood tests over the past 18 months. Lead levels had increased slightly but were still within acceptable limits, he said. The port had a maximum acceptable level of 50 micrograms per 100ml. Mr Grant said very few workers recorded above 10 micrograms. One worker had tested above the limit when he did not follow proper procedure, but was under the limit when tested three months later. Magellan Metals managing director Patrick Scott said the next shipment of lead, due to depart in about a week, had been cancelled and lead was being stored in an enclosed shed at the port. The company would work with the port and DEC to ensure the matter was resolved quickly.
