Volatile - Thanks ML
Volatile - Thanks MLRobin Batchelor runs the closed-end Merrill Lynch New Energy Technology fund. They invests in alternative energy companies and also holds emission trading credits.
Azure Dynamics is a Part of their Fund.
They say that the drivers of this particular sector are very compelling but it is very risky. They have commented in the past that they are not interested in companies that are purely doing R&D or those that are in the start-up phase.(Why they own AZD Shares then is beyound me?)They prefer to focus on those with a proper product that are on their way to being profitable.About 50% of the companies in the portfolio are profitable at the bottom line.
They mention that their fund focuses on a very volatile asset class so is not suitable for all investors. The drivers are very long term and seeing plus or minus 10% to 15% moves in one month should not be a shock.
If you are keen on supporting new technologies, some of Merrill Lynch's New Energy funds may be ideal. But these will also be the riskiest and most volatile.
That being said i prefer to invest Directly...ie Azure.
Bypass the middleman. Id ML is getting impatient that is their problem. At the price they are giving thier shares away a retailer such as myself can afford to wait a bit for a nice healthy return from these levels.
The last psoter called it correct. Once ML is out of Paper then the Stock will rebound.
