My letter to Jim Puplava - also on LilbertyHi Jim,
I've been listening to your show for about four years now. It's one of my regular Saturday morning activities. I'm also a long time (patient) holder of Kimber Resources.
One of the mantras I have heard from you and D. Coxe, with which I fully agree, is that the best oil companies to buy are those which are increasing production in secure areas of the world. This actually goes for both metals and energy. I have invested accordingly.
Living in Alberta (Edmonton), the subject of oil, Peak Oil and related issues is always of special interest to me. I have friends in the oil industry who sometimes provide me with insights I wouldn't otherwise gain until much later.
One such example relates to the increasingly difficult challenge of finding oil in the tired Western basin, where much of Alberta's oil has traditionally been produced. The region has been picked over and picked over by energy producers.
A petroleum reservoir engineer, who is a friend of mine, has explained that many juniors with "excellent" people are having trouble maintaining production, let alone grow it. The old business model doesn't seem to work anymore, he says. This is one of the reasons the markets have increasingly assigned lower ratios to Alberta junior oils.
There are exceptions however:
A notable one is Breaker Energy (WAV.A on Toronto Stock Exchange). Confession - I own a lot of these. Nonetheless, they are one of the best picks you will find these days. Their record speaks for itself. If you are indeed always on the prowl for quality companies along the parameters you mention, you won't be put off by this little "pump." See some of their highlights via link below.

Equally valuable, with more upside - a base metal producer in Ontario - Liberty Mines (LBE, soon to move to TSE). They are primarily Nickel, with much Cobalt potential and are opening their own state of the art mill by the end of April or the beginning of May. This is the largest investment I have ever made in one specific stock. So far it has treated me exceedingly well, but I expect much higher stock prices as the market has not noticed this gem, nor recognized its value.
If this is a pump, it is a justified one. This company has not promoted itself and has always low-balled their figures and potential. The president is very approachable and up-front. Under his leadership the company has followed its business plan pretty much to the T and moved forward at record speed.
