I wondered that myself, but that would have been a factor only if Merk was our potential partner and they would not have needed Pennsaid if the other drug had been approved since they felt that this latest drug was their next potential blockbuster. What this does do is suggests that the FDA is looking for some other form of drug that is safer to use for pain and by their own statements that sure sounds a lot to me like Pennsaid would fit in perfectly. With a proper partner, approval, and a big advertising campain, Pennsaid would be a wonder drug for many people and they would be able to advertise the safety benifits over the risks associated with the likes of the other ostioarthritis drugs.
