NewsScorpio's Surface Drilling of Santa Teresa Reports Mineralized Intercepts; Underground Drilling Targeting the Extension of the Sept 9 Zone Hits 7,290 g/t Ag, 16.95% Zn, 9.72% Cu, 2.64% Pb and 7.39 g/t Au over 1.0 metre 5/30/2007 VANCOUVER, May 30, 2007 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX News Network) -- TSX:SPM Scorpio Mining Corporation (TSX:SPM) is pleased to report the first surface drilling results targeting the Santa Teresa deposit, as well as underground drilling from the 10th Level of the Nuestra Senora deposit, which targeted the Sept 9 zone and followed up on the recently discovered down dip extension of the Santa Teresa. The Santa Teresa deposit mineralization outcrops at river level approximately 150 metres northeast of the Santo Domingo and 250 metres east of the Nuestra Senora deposits, both of which also outcrop at river level. The Candelaria deposit outcrops on the canyon wall 150 metres above the river level between the Santa Teresa and the Nuestra Senora. Mining of the Santa Teresa deposit was limited, with only 20,000 tonnes of mineralized material removed from an open cut at surface. The mineralization consists of coarse galena, sphalerite, pyrite and chalcopyrite disseminated in a skarn matrix of quartz, epidote, actinolite, tremolite and grossularite garnets. There is no evidence that ASARCO undertook any drill testing of the deposit. The geology and mineralogy are similar to the Hoag zone located between the 8th and 11th levels of the Nuestra Senora deposit. Peter J. Hawley, Chairman, CEO reports, "The initial surface drilling of the Santa Teresa deposit consisted of 8 holes drilled from one location at various azimuths and dips to determine the extent of the mineralization. This data has allowed for a three dimensional model of the body and projection of the down dip extension, which will be drilled from the 6th to 10th Levels of the Nuestra Senora. Presently, nine additional surface holes have tested the body from 5 drill platforms and assay results are pending. Underground drilling targeting the Sept 9 zone continues to be successful and is increasing the resources for this zone. The underground drill intercepts are approximately 200 metres below the surface drill intercepts of the Santa Teresa. The Company continues to be impressed with the extent of the mineralizing system. Since commencing exploration on the Nuestra Senora property, the Company has had success with defining the Nuestra Senora, Candelaria, Santa Teresa, Hoag, Sept 9, Main South and Main North zones, the last 4 of which are new discoveries. The Santo Domingo deposit has yet to be drill tested". << Table 1. Samples are shipped to the ALS Chemex preparation laboratory in Hermosillo, Mexico for drying, crushing and pulverizing. ALS Chemex, Hermosillo then sends the pulps by air-freight to ALS Chemex, Vancouver for assaying. Systematic assaying of standards and blanks are performed for the precision and accuracy; check assays are regularly conducted by SGS Lakefield Research.
