RE: Media update on blockade

RE: Media update on blockadeYou can't necessarily compare the situation in areas without treaties to those with treaties. Treaties 8 and 10 deal with northwestern Saskatchewan. This is not at all comparable to areas of the NWT, BC, Ontario, and Quebec without treaties or modern day land claim settlements. In 1899, the Dene surrendered their rights to this land and the resources found there. The Supreme Court can't ignore the treaties. I heard an interview with Hopkins today. He stated that the blockade won't affect the company's work much since their equipment already is in place. If necessary, the company might be able to gain access through Alberta. Or they can fly workers in and out. I'll agree with anyone who suggests that the NDP in Sask. is not on the ball regarding these matters. Where, for example, is the updated oil sands legislation that they promised a year or more ago? (Or did they pass it without my hearing about it?) And with an election coming up, the NDP isn't about to take a stand - especially not anything that may alienate voters in NW Sask. The unfortunate part is that government and the courts move so slowly that their inaction could turn into a problem for everyone involved. If most people blockaded a road, the RCMP would come out and clear the road. What are the chances that the police or Calvert will try to enforce the law in this situation?
