(TSX VENTURE: REW), today announced that the University of Guelph Turfgrass Institute has released preliminary results from fertility trials of its worm castings, which are produced by its wholly-owned operating subsidiary, Forterra Inc. As stated in a report by Dr. Ken Carey of the University of Guelph Turfgrass Institute, the worm castings had a significant positive effect on germination, shoot growth and establishment in all three turfgrass species tested. Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass and creeping bentgrass were tested in the study. A series of trials measured the effects of using Forterra worm castings in the growing mix, compared to growing media without worm castings. The rate of germination, growth of the shoot system, establishment of seedlings, seedling vigour, turf performance (colour and quality), and total root system growth were all evaluated during the trials.
