RE: Global zinc outlook...........Wonder if this will have any effect? Always amazed at how quickly copper prices react when the miners go on strike at the big copper mines in Peru. Xstrata says Mount Isa fire to hit zinc-lead output Mon Oct 1, 2007 4:29 PM BST Email This Article | Print This Article | RSS [-] Text [+] LONDON, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Swiss-based miner Xstrata (XTA.L: Quote, Profile , Research) said on Monday a fire at its Mount Isa zinc-lead concentrator in Australia on Friday will impact about 25,000 to 30,000 tonnes of zinc metal and 15,000 to 20,000 tonnes of lead. "The zinc-lead concentrator recommenced operations the same day, but will operate at a reduced capacity until repairs are completed," the company said in a statement. "It is estimated at this early stage that repairs will take between 4 to 6 weeks." A fire in the conveyor system to the Heavy Medium Plant at Xstrata Zinc's Mount Isa zinc-lead concentrator on Friday, September 28 resulted in property damage and an interruption to operations.
