I suspect that this Edmonton news report that talks about the emmigration from Alberta is referring to Albertans leaving the province to live in Saskatchewan or BC.
Wrong again. They are going back home. All over Canada and from other countries. Well if you study it further wages for years have not kept up with inflation in Alberta. Has the profits fallen for the big oil companies? NO! In fact they have soared. Has the wages of the few at the top kept pace with inflation? YES! They have even surpased.
......
As a Calgarian, I can certainly empathize with those who have left. More affordable housing, less stressful traffic, and better service at the places at which you choose to spend your discretionary income are all factors that are examined when making a choice of in which to live. People aren't leaving because companies are greedy. People are leaving because they don't like how big Calgary and Edmonton (and many other cities) are getting, because they don't like to sit in traffic for hours, and because they are fed up with poor service. It has nothing to do with greed or the layoffs of immigrant workers.
There you have it. If you truly believe what you just said then you have to agree Big is not Better. These companies have gotten to big for the good of all people in Alberta. I believe smaller companies lend better service and far better stability. There is a more friendly atmosphere working in a smaller outfit then the cold, detached atmosphere of the these huge oil companies. There is more of a stake in communities when you are a smaller company. These big oil companies have no stake in them. They do not care about the average worker, heck they like being detached from the communities.
The closest some of these top management ever see of the fields in Ablerta is through an airplane window. They don't dare land and ask the common worker how it is going or how something is working. The waste of capital in these big oil companies can more than pay for wage increases for the workers. They stumble over dollars to save a nickle. They have gotten too too big and it sure is showing now. This is has not been a good thing. I have even seen first hand, how the big guys were taught a lessen in this same respect. They wanted less work for themselves, they wanted to contract out and cut staff big time...lol....so... they being so narrow minded and blinded by the gold all of a sudden found a giant demanding higher fees from them....a giant they helped make.....what a joke. They were outraged and said NO WAY, and turned to the smaller companies once again....lmao....
So yes, smaller is better and it makes for more competition and better service.
Everything comes full circle and it is time that these big oil companies grow up and face reality. They do not own Alberta. The people of Alberta own Alberta.
IMHO
