interesting post

interesting postI saw an interesting post on Michael Geist's website regarding the future spectrum auction and the spectrum's use. Future thinking in its true form! For those who do not recognize the potential of our spectrum or just need a refresher, please have a read: Written by Stephen Myers on 2007-07-02 22:05:02 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have been in telecomm for the past 15 yrs. I have had 55 technitions working for me across the USA. So my company was involved in site builds, upgrades, installations, testing and integration of said new equipment/upgrades. Cellular service is on the way out. It will take a while, but VoIP is comming. As soon as cities across the country are blanketed with WiMAX you won't require a cellular phone at all. iPhone, apples new addition is capable of switching over to high speed wireless and turning off the cellular so the user can access VoIP phone service. This is like the Hybred vehicles now on the market...the link between what's on it's way out and what's on it's way in. You can bet that Rogers/Tellus/Bell will fight to have control of the spectrum. Top bid? Yes they have the cash. But is it best for the people? I think not. I believe fair trade availability and not monopoly is the essence of better business and better product. Google has teemed up with Earthlink to provide WiMAX to cities in the USA and they have begun. It will be a 2 tier system, and rightfully so. 1 is free with advertising, the other is paid, which is clean and faster. I think the cellular companies had better see the direction of the telecom landscape and start implimenting plans for WiMAX buildouts. One last comment...with internet availability everywhere now the legal issue is raised about broadcasting over the net...can you legally do that, are there laws against? Can they be challanged as unconstitutional?
