X-POWER: Switch on the PC by phone
Save electricity without restriction on anytime access
In order to access your personal computer at home or in the office with the X-KEY, the PC has to be switched on and connected with the internet. Many users, however, don`t want to leave their PC switched on day and night. For this purpose we offer X-POWER-Systems. X-POWER allows you to “wake up” and start the PC with a phone call. In this case the PC only has to run when it is actually needed. There are two versions of X-POWER: X-POWER-local enables the start of a single PC, X-POWER-net, in contrast, allows you to start every single PC within a complete network.
X-POWER-local
X-POWER-local is a switcher, which can switch a single PC on and off by phone. Similar to a clock timer it is pluged between the electricity network and the electric power supply of a PC (standard-power-socket) and is additionally connected to the telephone network (fax-wiring-box, for example) respectively an appropriate extension (wire lead and TAE-plug will be also provided). By ringing the extension and entering the numerical code, the PC can be switched on any time. For that the PC will be configurated in such a way, that it always starts automatically, when electricity is available (BIOS Power Settings.)
The phone call can occur over national and international network (also over mobile network). The telephone network only has to back the MFV-dealing-process (multi-frequency), which is a standard establishment almost worldwide. The access code can be changed, thus making abuse practically impossible, because the caller has to know both the extension and the access code. X-POWER-local is constructed for 230 V, 50 Hz and can carry a maximum current of 10A. No specific knowledge is necessary for the installation. The user only has to be able to configure BIOS that automatically starts with Power-On, which can differ from producer to producer. This function is available in all modern BIOS by default (approximately from production year 2000). Recommended retail price: 79,90 € excluding VAT.
The multiple-switcher X-POWER-net
X-Power-net is installed within a network (LAN) as an independent PC. It contains a complete telephone-extension-asset and is connected to the telephone network via a connection for ISDN-unit. From this PC all the PCs within the network can then be switched on separately.
In order to be able to switch on any PC within the LAN, the X-POWER-net-PC itself has to be switched on all time, otherwise, the integrated telephone unit is inoperable. The Wake-ON-LAN-Operation is used to switch on the PCs. For this purpose the PCs, that are to be switched on, are configured accordingly (BIOS). This operation must be admitted by the network (Broadcast).
An own switch logic is installed for each PC, which is to be switched on with the provided software. The turn-on procedure can be carried out with one of the following functions (single or additive):
Dealing a pre-defined extension (no telephone charges)
Entering an arbitrary PIN (connection fees for the duration of the entry)
Phone call from a pre-defined connection (evaluation of the transferred phone number, no telephone charges)
The first installation (installation of the X-POWER-net (not the configuration of the PCs within the network)) is always carried out by an X-MS AG system-technician. The time and effort depend on the volume and the structure of the network. Further administration can be done by the user without special knowledge. According to the time and effort, the initial costs can differ by a lot. From experience the costs add up to approximately between 2,500 € – 3,000 € in a standard-environment.
