RE: Likely just a useless comment ...

RE: Likely just a useless comment ...I disagree that the current trading patterns of VRS are out-of-sync with the markets.  I point to the following facts:
1. If you remove the precious metal and commodity effect from the TSX index, the recent performance has been terrible. Almost everyone outside of these two sectors is taking a beating.
2. It is impossible to expect an individual Small Cap stock (outside of the previously mentioned sectors) to gain "traction" in this environment, especially when there is no specific positive announcement to push the stock forward.
3. The Canadian manufacturing sector is leading the charge downwards.  With the continued strength of the Canadian Dollar, manufacturers (especially those that export their goods) are hurting badly.
4. The US Aerospace and Defence Sector is down over 6% YTD (terrible performance given that we are only two weeks into 2008).
5.  I have heard the word "recession" more in the last five days than I have heard it in the previous 5 years!  The bleak economic / investment outlook has drastically eroded the confidence of the investment community.

When viewed in this light, the recent performance of VRS is completely understandable and expected.  But before we start looking for a bridge to sleep under (or jump off!), we need to take a step back and look to the longer term.  I refer everyone to my bullboard posting on January 8th for arguments supporting a bullish long-term outlook for VRS.

I remain confident that in the years to come, we will all look back at the first few months of 2008 and respect it for what it is... an excellent buying opportunity for VRS investors!
