RE:RE: Article EML-Atomaer-Mintails edtvSwanepoel, who was credited with growing Harmony from a single mine to the fifth-largest gold mining company in the world, announced his immediate resignation from the company on the same day that Harmony admitted its upcoming results would be well below expectations, partly as a result of a glitch in the implementation of a new accounting system, which resulted in about R250-million worth of costs not being captured in the three months to the end of March and instead appearing in the fourth-quarter's numbers.

STRATEGIC GROWTH
Victoria, Australia-based Mintails, which is developing dump-retreatment operations in South Africa, said that Swanepoel would focus on "strategic growth initiatives" for the company, as well as the options available to increase the group's value and optimisation of its current asset portfolio.
He would serve in an advisory role, the firm said in an ASX announcement.
"The appointment ...is part of Mintails’ strategy to develop its internal capabilities in line with the company’s growth potential."
Mintails has a JV with South African miner DRDGold on the East Rand of Johannesburg, and is in the process of recommissioning AngloGold Ashanti's old East Rand Gold and Uranium Operations, or 'Ergo'.
It has also begun building a similar operation, dubbed 'Wergo', on the West Rand.
The company announced in December that it had agreed with Ndaba Ntsele's Pamodzi Gold that Pamodzi would transfer ownership of its Grootvlei dumps to Mintails, and, in exchange, receive five rock dumps belonging to the Australian company.
Pamodzi will also get a stake in Mintails, the size of which would be determined by how much uranium was contained in the Grootvlei dumps.
FAMILIAR FACES
Mintails announced two other senior appointments this week, neither of whom will be unfamiliar to African mining buffs.
Former AngloGold Ashanti head of metallurgy for Africa, Basie Maree, has joined the company as group executive for operations, and Rob Croll, who was previously business development manager at AngloGold, has been appointed group executive for corporate affairs.
Croll was appointed a nonexecutive director of Mintails in August last year, but has now joined the executive team on a full-time basis.

Swanepoel is a big old boy: I think it is also good for EML (Atomaer)
