good news..NEW YORK (Bloomberg) -- Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan said China's 2008 potash surplus will be "much lower" than in previous years, putting the country in a weak position in annual price talks.
China's consumption this year will be similar to that of 2007, PotashCorp CEO William Doyle said Tuesday, but it will import less than last year because of a shortage in global supply, which will have a "big impact" on next year's price talks, he said.
Saskatoon-based PotashCorp expects China's middle-class population to triple in the next five years to more than 600 million, and India's to gain similarly to 750 million. The gains are expected to increase meat consumption and boost demand for fertilizers for feed crops.
