The idea of justice has been long ago taken hostage by the legal system. I don't think the ransom will ever be paid. I believe the first hostage became fodder for the lead in O'Henry's " The Ransom of Red Chief" Okay , that was just a segue for a funny short story some of you might want to read, maybe even to your kids, Warning! it might give them ideas......
