intersting articleMayor’s Report

Defining our involvement in the next mining cycle that is taking place in our back yard, is certainly a topic our council is dealing with right now.
After my lunch meeting with the President of Detour Gold and the President of Pelangio Mines last week, I was left not only with a full stomach of wonderful food from one of our local restaurants, but with the butterflies that came from the discussion during the highly energized lunch meeting. These two individuals, President at that, were so excited about their findings at Detour Lake and at the market for Gold worldwide. I was very happy for them, and happy for us here in Cochrane.
Upon hearing time and time again, that Cochrane had missed the boat in the last gold rush in Detour Lake, I felt very determined that we would not do that again, I believe there are many of us who feel this way.
As Detour Gold continues to drill for more exploration holes in the Pelangio Mine Property, they are also busy preparing their Feasibility Study, a detailed plan on what the requirements will be, financially, staffing, capital resources, and so forth, we must also be doing the same, defining and getting ready to be part of this new exciting opportunity. Their plan will be ready for a decision by the end of this year.
I have always maintained a view to working together as a way to get ourselves the best seat in the house, but it has not always been easy to do that. However, we must keep trying to find ways on how we can be a strong team, a strong community, that will make any company like Detour Gold, Pelangio Mines or whoever, be a client of the many wonderful services that Cochrane has to offer.
There is a meeting that is taking place with Council and the Board of Trade of Cochrane on April 16th to discuss the various issues and opportunities that we are facing. I have taken the liberty of inviting the President of Detour Gold to be part of that meeting. He can be the one to tell you his story, the story of hope and the greatest success he is yet to find, right around the corner. I won’t mention anything further to what we talked about during our lunch meeting; that’s for him to tell you, soon.
There are many, many other opportunities coming to our community, we just need to define how we will benefit the most, together.
