ABSOLUTE SOFTWARE HIGHLIGHTS CUSTOMER SUCCESSES IN EDUCATION
Absolute Software Corp. today highlighted educational institutions usingComputrace for comprehensive notebook computer management including: theftrecovery, annual IT inventorying and budgeting, remote data delete, andcritical theft and tampering deterrence. Due to the importance of this solutionfor educational customers, Fujitsu recently announced a bundle of Computracewith Fujitsu notebooks designed for the education market.
"As publicly funded institutions, a key objective for school districtsusing notebook and tablet computers is demonstrating accountability for thefunds they spend buying and maintaining computer populations," said JohnLivingston, chairman and chief executive officer of Absolute Software."Computrace is uniquely able to assist school district IT personnel inmany of their most time-consuming and inefficient processes. Seven of America'stop 15 school districts currently use Computrace to inventory computers, prevent theft and tampering and recover those computers that are lost orstolen. And, because Computrace is delivered as a service, it requires noadditional expenditure on IT infrastructure like servers and IT staff. No othersolution offers such comprehensive cost management and protection for schooldistricts that are investing heavily in laptop computers for better results inthe classroom."
As a recommended management tool for new school computers, computermanufacturers are taking steps to make Computrace more accessible to theireducation customers. Fujitsu's new education program includes a three-yearComputrace subscription across a number of computer models. The bundle allowsthe manufacturer to pre-enable Computrace before it arrives on site at schools-- so computers can be tracked right out of the box, saving time and money forschool IT administrators. Other PC OEMs have also included the solution as arecommended product in their education segment sales and marketing materials.
Embedded in the BIOS of computers from the world's leading computermanufacturers, Computrace is an affordable and effective computer security andIT asset-management solution. Computrace protects both PCs and Macs, providingreliable visibility into every computer in the district -- leading to enhancedsecurity, simplified inventorying and regulatory compliance. Should a computergo missing, the Absolute theft-recovery team uses information sent viaComputrace to track the computer and engage local law enforcement to physicallyrecover it and return it to the district's staff.
By implementing Computrace across its entire 10,000-plus notebook anddesktop population, Kent School District in Washington State has reduced itsannual inventory process from a 10-person, three-month project to running afive-minute report. "We used to have 10 people with barcode scannersattempting to find 10,000 computers. At best, we were achieving 70 to 75 percent accuracy in this process -- and at great effort. With Computrace, wealways know where our computers are. What was once a three-month process is nowaccomplished by running a five-minute report that is more than 99 per centaccurate. That is accountability," Thuan Nguyen, director of informationtechnology, Kent School District.
Surrey School District, the largest school district in British Columbia usesComputrace AbsoluteTrack across various platforms, including 6,000 PCs, 6,000Apple desktop computers and 800 notebook computers, to verify software licencecompliance, perform life cycle management and execute an annual inventory."AbsoluteTrack has been a great investment for our school district andsaves us money in many ways: it helps keep us onside with software-complianceregulations, thus preventing us from having to pay fines, and it has enabled usto automate processes that were labour intensive and inefficient. I wouldstrongly recommend AbsoluteTrack to any school district," said Dan Turner, director of information technology, Surrey School District.
Dysart Unified School District, the fastest growing district in Arizona, uses ComputraceComplete to manage and track over 3,000 computers, including thedistrict's fleet of notebooks. The district's director of informationtechnology, Evan Allred, says: "We were impressed with our firstexperience working with Absolute's recovery service. They literally lookedafter everything from the moment we let them know it was missing to the pointwhere we could go pick it up at the Surprise (Arizona) Police Department. Inthe past, we wouldn't have had a chance of recovering that laptop, but thesheer speed with which it was found in this case should be a major deterrentfor would-be thieves."
