KEPCO, Forsys' potential partner, is going forward with its nuclear program. KHNP, KEPCO's nuclear subsidiary, announced that it has been granted construction licences for two new reactors.
KHNP granted construction permit for Shin-Kori 3 and 4
KHNP operates 20 reactors in South Korea. Three are currently under construction (two of them half-finished) and five more are planned. According to KHNP's website this year two of the five planned reactors will move to the construction phase. With all eight new reactors in operation (planned for 2016) nuclear energy output in South Korea will have risen by more than 50% compared to today.
There are no uranium deposits in South Korea, so stable and diversified foreign sources are important. A new uranium mine in Namibia should come in handy...
