RE: You're right idiots...that's ironicSometimes the company has information that is due to come out and the stock starts to run because this information starts to get out and the company is not in the position to post a complete NR yet. RS may halt and contact the company for more explanation. If the company says 'we've just got XYZ information and we're about to release it' then the halt might stand pending the release of the info. if the company says 'there's no new info in the pipeline but we just put out all the relevant NRs last week and they are still being digested by the market' then RS may lift the halt and allow trading to commence.
For other companies that have had big runs without any halts, it was likely that the runs in the stock proceeded release of news. Sure speculation may have carried them above where they might have been justified to be, but it probably wasn't the case that they had concrete material news that was pending and might have leaked and been responsible for the price/volume action.
