SPRING EXPLORATION RESULTS AT CREDIT LAKE AND NEW STAKING AT LAC DE GRAS, NT.
Arctic Star Diamond Corp. has completed the spring diamond and nickel exploration program at the Credit Lake and New Bigg properties in Northwest Territories, and completed new staking at Lac de Gras, NWT.
The exploration program commenced on March 18 and ended May 8, 2008, at cost of $1.5-million. Ground geophysical surveys, including magnetometer, HLEM MaxMin and gravity gradiometer surveys, were completed on every workable day which generated many new targets. Diamond drilling was contracted to Beaudoin Diamond Drilling, of Courtney B.C., which efficiently completed 1,012 metres (m) (10 BTW drill holes) of helicopter-supported exploration diamond drilling. Nine kimberlite targets: seven conductors and two magnetic anomalies; and one base metal target, were tested. Airborne geophysics totalled 2,321 line kilometres (km).
Massive sulphides were intersected at two intervals (0.2-metre and 0.6-metre width) in diamond drill hole 08CR-10 between 117.6 m and 118.8 m depth. The massive sulphide lenses consist of pyrrhotite and minor chalcopyrite. The new massive sulphide discovery was identified with MaxMin HLEM near 2007 soil samples with anomalous nickel and copper. Split core from this discovery has been submitted to ALS Chemex in Thunder Bay for rush processing.
Geotech Ltd., of Aurora, Ont., completed time domain electromagnetic surveys using a VTEM system to explore for nickel and base metals at Credit Lake (739 line km) and on the New Bigg property (1,342 line km). The Credit Lake and New Bigg survey areas were identified as areas of anomalous nickel, copper and other base metals in regional geochemical surveys conducted last summer.
Although kimberlite was not intersected in nine diamond drill holes, many untested targets remain. Target generation improved with more sensitive ground magnetic surveys, better positioned HLEM MaxMin surveys and improved data processing. A geotech VTEM airborne survey (240 line km) at the head of the Coppermine KIM dispersal train was completed late in the program and produced 18 high-priority conductors in preliminary data. Only one of these targets was tested.
New staking by Arctic Star while the exploration program was under way added 78 claims in five areas (240,000 acres) to diamond properties in the Lac de Gras area. This highlights the company's focus on high-quality diamond projects near producing diamond mines in Canada.
Arctic Star is well positioned for continued diamond and base metal exploration on the Credit Lake, New Bigg and new properties in the Lac de Gras area of NWT in summer 2008.
The Credit Lake and New Bigg projects are supervised by K.R. Kivi, PGeol, a qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101. Mr. Kivi has reviewed the content of this news release.
