The A processor wasn't replaced, the problem, according to "Jon", was a decompression vessel that was part of the A processor system. To try to make analogy, it might be like having the exhaust manifold of your car engine break, not nearly as serious as having the engine block freeze and crack. They couldn't run without the decompression vessel, so modifications to A were stopped, and they began modifying B. Before the decompression vessel was replaced however, the A processor was cannibalized for components and never put back into service.
