RE: Super futur for Manganese...
RE: Super futur for Manganese...I was just about to post that, lol. Another point to mention is that AUA did get the financing they needed which bodes well for RD. Refurbishing a past producing mine usually takes less time than starting at ground zero. I found this part of the RI article interesting. Nice to see them right on track with their time-line.
Wilkens said South African held 80% of the world's manganese ore reserves and Assmang held 60% of those. A number of new entrants had been granted prospecting areas and Assmang was talking to them. However, the size of its present ore bodies and the life of its mines were more than adequate.
Assmang produces about 4 million tonnes of manganese ore a year, which could be raised to 5.4 million tonnes using existing infrastructure, Wilkens said. The main curbs on lifting output were capital costs, bottlenecks in rail and port capacity, and electricity supply.
Artillery Peak is reported to contain the USA's largest low grade manganese resource (US Bureau of Mines Report). With all the problems SA has had lately there is a need to have a manganese producer is the USA to meet the needs of steel production. GLTA
