Junex and Molopo
Junex and Molopo
Junex and Molopo's southern properties have Utica basin shale potential. This is the easy stuff that Talisman and Forest Oil are drooling over. As we get further north, the basin area is interspersed with a geologic formation referred to by some as a northwest-verging thrust sheets. Talisman is farming this very formation successfully in Ontario with wells yielding 4 to 7 mcf per day. Both Junex and Molopo have this important natural gas and oil exploration areas. All of Molopo's lands have either basin Utica Shale or shale formations in a thrust formation. Molopo plans to do some exploratory drilling to locate the best area for natural gas production. They will probably focus on areas nearest a pipeline.
The following quote is from the linked article that explains the work performed by Junex (that applies to Molopo's larger acreage north of Quebec)
The Upper Ordovician Honorat Group contains a black shale unit of the same age as the Utica and Macasty Shales, identified as excellent -source rocks in the St. Lawrence Lowlands and Anticosti Island. Results from recent research give additional information on Ordovician source rock potential (Bertrand et al., 2004). This Ordovician oil migrates along the regional extensional faults and feed the younger reservoir zones.
