LG news - Bloomberg picked upWi-Lan Sues LG Electronics for Mobile Phone Patent Infringement
By Joe Schneider
July 4 (Bloomberg) -- Wi-Lan Inc., a Canadian owner of patents for wireless technologies, sued LG Electronics Inc., claiming the company is infringing two U.S. patents with its mobile handheld devices and other equipment.
LG Electronics, Asia's second-biggest maker of mobile phones, was added yesterday as a defendant to a suit filed June 19 in which Wi-Lan claimed Motorola Inc., Research In Motion Ltd. and UTStarCom Inc. also violated the patents.
The defendants are aware of the patents and continue to infringe, Wi-Lan said in its amended complaint, filed in Marshall, Texas. Wi-Lan is seeking an injunction to stop use of the technology and unspecified damages.
McKool Smith is representing Wi-Lan.
Wi-Lan, based in Ottawa, said it settled a separate legal dispute with Marvell Semiconductor Inc. in federal court in northern California.
The case is Wi-Lan Inc. v. Research In Motion Corp. File No.: 2:08-cv-247. United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (Marshall).
