If this were/is this case, wouldn't these companies be more apt to mine the potash and keep stock on hand, rather then sell it at market now - or hedge it? This way if prices were to decline, they'd have a stockpile to unload quickly - hence reaping a larger reward at the start of a downdrift, as appose to selling their product after its been mined and at the end of the downdrift?
Your notation seems to imply that these producers have a stranglehold on the market. Which may be the case, so if they are playing that style of game then I'd expect them to try and cash in before the market turns against them.
FTR: I'm not following the Potash sector closely, my view is simply from a basic S&D cash in the hand perspective.
