Depths At Adamas & GXSA mere 14 inches (0.36m) is considered to be of commercial value (before the present price boom) by the Dept of mines in Oklahoma and is mineable by underground methods.
“The commercial coal belt contains coal beds greater or equal to ten (10) inches thick. They are mineable by surface methods, at depths less than one hundred (100) feet, and coal beds greater than or equal to fourteen (14) inches thick, are mineable by underground methods.”

The situations in Sask does not necessarily to be identical to those in Oklahoma, but what make one to believe that a 5m coal seam is just “Ha Ha” and will never make it at this point?
So GXS’s depth is over 80m and they probably will have to go underground already. The Mannville is likely an expansive flat lying sedimentary formation over hundreds of km, and depth at Adamas will be similar to that at GXS’s, but will also depend on whether the seam is in basin area or beneath higher grounds.
So for investors, there is absolutely no reason to worry about the depth issue. As already pointed out by others, the size of the resource is what makes economical sense.
