RE: GM Takes a Hard Look at Natural GasPersonally, I would not put a lot of stock in what any of the "Big Three" say. They have been in denial about what true consumer demand has been for so long that they lost most of the real market to the foreign auto manufacturers long ago. They built the wrong vehicles, ignored demands for better fuel economy, and didn’t/couldn’t improve the quality control to keep pace.
Anything they say tends to be script that they figure the marketplace wants to hear and not real action, with real results. Look at the reference to fuel cells… they think that they should make a vehicle that can run on hydrogen, but make the hydrogen from natural gas. Where is the logic in that? Use the natural gas in its natural state, cut out 3 or 4 middle men, accept the fact that there will always be “some” form of pollutant and lets get on with it. Transforming the NG into hydrogen is an energy consuming operation which still emits pollutants somewhere; I have a hard time believing that educated men cannot see the reality of this euphoric hydrogen drunken state… North America needs to send all of their top executives back to grade 9 so they can see how impractical it is to even suggest these grand illusions.
