More guesses...I listened to the CC and they said that the European engine manufacturer was the largest in Europe and that they were developing products that are larger than the Cummins engines (so, over 600 hp)… this gets me thinking that MAN is back in the picture (or should I say “have finally stepped up to the plate”) and are going to use HPDI on gensets, ship engines, railway engines, etc… the reason that I am thinking this is the most likely scenario is that they figured that they may have a commercial product between 12 and 24 months; which means, they either have already done much of the initial work, or they are going into a demand area where it is not regulated as tightly as the “on road business”…
… if MAN supplies the majority of the manufacturers of “in harbor” tug boats with engines, I wonder how large of an impact that could have on Westport… maybe the Ports around the world would demand to have LNG fueled tugs, supply ships, etc. the same as what the Port of Long Beach and Port of L.A. are doing with the trucks…
… bottom line (with the exception of the Australians; who haul huge, long loads) I can’t see any European nation requiring more than 600 hp for heavy duty trucking applications; so it has to be for Industrial use and they have to have a large enough demand for “the same engine platform” to make it worthwhile…
Lots of hints in the CC, but I’ll keep the rest of my thoughts to myself…
