I don't think it's a case of voluntary selling. I think across the entire commodity group we've been seeing seeing forced selling to raise cash. eg You have a $5 stock that you get a margin call on. You can sell out and take your loss there or if you really like the stock you can dump your smaller holdings like Augen to raise cash you need. Or maybe in the US you dump all your small stocks to try and raise cash to hold off your mortgage foreclosure. Or you work for a big US merchant bank and you just got a pink slip so you sell your holdings to raise cash because your family's going to need it to live on for a while. So many scenarios and all of them bad for stocks. The value of any company is meaningless in the current situation which is a near panic.
