RE: insider ownershipRemember, of the 27.78% listed as insider ownership, Industrias Penoles is one of the insiders and owns more than 70% of the insider controlled shares that you refer to. MAG's management owns very little of this stock, and from a voting perspective have very little say (less than 8% of the voting shares). So, you shouldn't put too much assurance in management's capabilities should a control event occur.
Also, it is worth noting that MAG's management have (as yet – no new announcement) not met with their 56% partner Fresnillo under the Minera Juanicipio S.A. de C.V corporation. See the announcement wording from their Oct 15 2008 announcement provided below. It has been almost a year since the entity was created and the board hasn't met yet - this is a pretty strong indicator as to the situation.
"MAG has been unsuccessful in establishing a date on which Fresnillo personnel will make themselves available for the initial board meeting of Minera Juanicipio S.A. de C.V. MAG will make every effort to have that meeting held and also to obtain, and then provide to its shareholders, all further information in possession of Fresnillo but not yet provided to MAG regarding or affecting the Juanicipio Property"
I have a question for those that are really interested in this investment. Who actually owns/controls the Juanicipio property? Here is an excerpt from MAG’s website (under their Juanicipio Property description) to get you started.
“Minera Juanicipio S.A. DE C.V. This new company was established in December 2007 to own and operate the Juanicipio Joint Venture, MAG having a direct 44% interest and Frenillo plc a direct 56% interest. In 2007 the joint venture purchased more land west of the Valdecañas Vein discovery tied directly to the west of land purchased the previous year. The Joint Venture has uninterrupted coverage of 4.5 kilometres of the strike projection of the Valdecañas Vein from east to west. Also in late 2007 the joint venture purchased over 2.5 kilometres of surface rights along the strike projection of the Juanicipio Vein, underscoring the importance the joint venture places on Juanicipio Vein.”
