RE: RRSP question....

RE: RRSP question....Leanna I deal with investors edge and when I deregister there is a 10% holding tax and no penalty (though I've never deregistered more than $20000.  So on $50000 you would get $45000 into your regular cash account.  If you can wait till Jan 1/09 to do this ( u can have your cash ready now but do it Jan 1/09) u wont have to settle up with the tax man until tax time in 2010 thus giving u 16 months to deal with the repercussions of dealing with the tax aspect of such a huge deregistration.   If u did that deregister today u would face the tax implications in early 09, about 6 months.  I'm an expert at this as I've been doing it regularly throughout the 90's and on as I had to get the money out of my rrsp and into a spousal where it would serve me better as I have (perhaps had) a great pension plan and my wife doesnt so the big bucs should be in her rrsp.  good luck ps sh anti spam is a joke how can I decipher a symbol which appears not to be a keyboard figure (lol).
