Faced with a growing proportion of non-U.S. customers, Bombardier Inc. today opened its first after-sale support office in Europe.
Located near Munich, Germany, the centre is the third regional office the civil aircraft maker has opened in 2008, as Bombardier attempts to improve post-sale support services for customers. The European office will service regional jets and Q-Series turboprops in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
In 2009, Bombardier expects to open a new office in India.
Bombardier is investing resources to support growth in new markets outside the United States. The U.S. and Canada account for 38 per cent of total new regional jet deliveries by all plane-makers, according to Bombardier's most recent forecast.
But Europe and Asia - including China - are to account for close to half of all new aircraft deliveries between 2008 and 2027, the forecast said.
Bombardier spokesperson John Arnone couldn't say how much it costs to open a new service centre.
"It's the cost of doing business," he said. "It's an investment in our long-term growth. It's a very strategic decision."
