TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 9, 1998--TRI-VISION INT'L (Alberta Stock Exchange:TVL.) Tri-Vision Electronics Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. have completed the world's first "V-Chip enabled" television on schedule under a Joint Development Agreement.
Eight weeks after signing the Joint Development Agreement with Samsung, Tri-Vision unveiled the prototype V-Chip TV, which will enable parents to control the quality and content of television programs viewed in the home, at a news conference at The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, today.
The CES is North America's largest consumer electronics exhibition showcasing new technologies to approximately 100,000 industry professionals, including more than 3,000 media.
Tri-Vision President Najmul Siddiqui says the development of the prototype V-Chip TV within the agreed upon timeframe works to reassure manufacturers of the viability of adopting Tri-Vision's V- Chip technology.
"Television manufacturers have established production cycles that dictate the lead-time required to integrate a value-added technology such as the V-Chip into the architecture of new TV sets," Siddiqui says. "Tri-Vision and Samsung have effectively demonstrated that the integration process works very smoothly."
Tri-Vision's Director of Licensing, Bob deWit, says the Company is in the midst of establishing licensing agreements with TV manufacturers for the incorporation of its V-Chip technology into new television sets.
"Samsung's willingness to collaborate on this project reinforces the strength of the intellectual property held by Tri-Vision," Bob deWit says. "The work under the agreement is the precursor to the final stages of our licensing discussions."
Tri-Vision's V-Chip technology has the novel feature of being able to cope with multiple and changing television content classification systems.
To accompany existing television sets, Tri-Vision has also developed a line of V-Chip Set-Top-Box Decoder products which are now being marketed in North America through leading electronics distributors.
