RE: news coming soonThnaks Saga. I have also been contacting them but by e-mail. My questions were along a different track. I was trying to get to the bottom of what products were actually approved for sale, who distributes them, where, and how that was being controlled.
Some of the answers I got are.
1. Only the HIV 1 rapid test is approved in Canada and US. I got from the FDA website
https://www.fda.gov/cber/products/testkits.htm , that it is only approved for use at "point of care" and only by trained staff. I take this to mean clinical labs and staff. So it is not a home test kit or over the counter product. The multiple tests have not yet been through the expensive trail stage yet for approval. I am assuming it is going to take an infusion of cash to get the trials done and assuming further that they would like to get that cash from sales of the approved products rather than further dilution of the stock. Not sure what is approved in other countries.
2. Medmira is competing with many other companies, however two points are made. They are facing the same problems Medmira is in getting the attention of health care professionals and many of the the competing products do not have as good results as the Rapid HIV tests. I am told many health organizations are looking to change products and that is where Medmira is focussing on in the US. As well, I am told the competitors are facing the same problems with share price that we are. This would explain why they are focussing their efforts in the US. There are many more HIV positve people that have not yet been tested in the US than Canada. Recently Orasure got permission from the FDA for the testing age be reduced from 18 to 13 years old because of the incidence of youth at risk.
3. Medmira can produce between 200,000 and 400,000 kits per month with a single shift, depending on which product is being produced. It has the capacity to expand production.
This shows me it is still a company in it's infancy, with a long ways to go from being an R&D company to a full production company. But one with good promise.
