WASHINGTON, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Online registration has begun for the 2009 Force Protection Equipment Demonstration (FPED VII). With a theme of "Impacting the Global War on Terror," the event will be held at Stafford County Regional Airport, Stafford, VA, and Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA, next May 19-21. Registration is available, under the "Attendees" tab, on the FPED VII web site at https://www.fped7.org
FPED VII will present demonstrations of commercial off-the-shelf equipment solutions to current and evolving force protection and physical security challenges. The largest force protection event of its kind in the world, it will feature more than 600 exhibitors demonstrating nearly 4,000 items of equipment designed to reduce vulnerabilities to terrorism, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The demonstrations are produced to enhance the overall security of U.S. and allied interests. Only items available for procurement and testing within 90 days may be presented at the event.
The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff initiated the demonstration as a result of the bombing at Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia in 1996. Held every two years since 1997, it is sponsored by the Department of Defense Physical Security Equipment Action Group, The Joint Staff, the Department of Energy, the National Institute of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Technical Support Working Group. It is executed by the Product Manager, Force Protection Systems.
Equipment exhibits and demonstrations are presented at Stafford County Regional Airport. Presentations involving equipment survivability and personnel and infrastructure protection against high explosives and direct fire weapons are conducted on ordnance ranges at Quantico.
FPED VII is open only to Department of Defense personnel, security planning and procurement leaders and decision-makers from other federal departments and agencies, selected state and local law enforcement personnel, other first-responder agencies, and defense media. The event is not open to the general public. Companies interested in exhibiting at FPED VII may contact Mr. Calvin Mayo at (703) 452-3703.
