RE: RE: World-Class Thickness, retireddrillerThe world-class thicknesses that I quoted from R.D. Singh’s book apparently refer to what can be considered as single seams. Here’s the exact text on page 151:
“A lignite bed in Korkino on the slope of Ural mountains former USSR is 160 m thick. In India, a coal seam in Singrauli coalfield attains the thickness of 162 m. The world’s thickest coal seam 230.73 m thick occurs at Loy Yang, Victoria, Australia at a depth of 21.3 m from the surface.”

In my earlier post regarding the Sask situation, the term “zone” that I used was what appeared on the map available on AIX company site:
https://www.alixresources.com/docs/geo_alix_coal_prospecting_permits.pdf
They include as per NR by the relevant companies.:
1) 14 ft Zone: AIX/GM, E of Montreal Lake, intercept at 630 ft.
2) 30 ft Zone: AIX/GM, E of Montreal Lake (17km from “1”), intercept at 720 ft.
3) 17 ft Zone: AIX/GM, SE of La Ronge Lake, intercept at 35 ft
4) 80 ft Zone: GXS, 18 miles S of Wapawekka Lake, intercept at a 627 ft.
5) 16 m Zone: WER, intercept at 48~55m and 55~66m.
6) 6 m Zone: NAG, intercepts 4 & 1m.
Apparently the above 6 "Zones" identified on the AIX map are references to true coal thickness measurements derived from historical drillings by various parties.
Now the mystery arises from the 2 new coal zones (200 and 480 ft) that appear on their latest map. Other than the dimensions on the map, there don’t seem to have further details about them available on the company sites.
So until more information comes up, we can only weight the possibilities:
1) Whether the term “Zone” have been used with consistency to represent true seam thicknesses or otherwise.
2) Whether the companies are conscientious of their legal obligation and consequences if misleading or untruthful information is willfully disseminated.
Anyone with more info and insights please share.
Best to all!
