KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Cessna Aircraft Co. says it plans to lay off another 2,000 workers as the slumping worldwide economy is forcing more customers to cancel or delay orders for new aircraft.
The manufacturer earlier had announced 2,600 job cuts. The new cuts were announced Thursday.
The full 4,600 layoffs are expected to be completed by the end of March with most of the cuts coming at the company's headquarters in Wichita, Kan.
As part of the cuts, Cessna says it will close a service centre in Toledo, Ohio, that employs 67 people.
Cessna is part of Textron Inc., which is based in Providence, R.I.
