The LAV III armoured vehicle (AV) is the latest (entering service in 1999) in General Motors' light armoured vehicle (LAV) line. It was developed by Canada and is the primary mechanized infantry vehicle of the Canadian Armed Forces and New Zealand military. The United States Army uses a very similar, more lightly armed vehicle, the Stryker. The LAV III and the Stryker have also been referred to as Land Assault Vehicles. It is an 8×8 wheeled armored vehicle with a 25 mm cannon, and can reach speeds of 100 kilometres per hour. The LAV III is C130 transportable. Variants include Infantry Section Carrier (ISC), Command Post (CP), TOW Under Armour (TUA) anti-tank, Forward Observation Officer (FOO), Combat Engineer, and Multi-Mission Effects Vehicle (MMEV). Military vehicles are commonly armoured to withstand the impact of shrapnel, bullets or shells, protecting the soldiers inside from enemy fire. ...Caliber: 25 mm NATO Firearm action: Chain gun Manufactured by: ATK Barrel Length: 85. ...The M242 25mm Chain gun A chain gun is a type of machine gun or autocannon that uses an external source of power, rather than recoil, to cycle the weapon. ......The Stryker is a family of eight-wheeled all wheel drive (AWD) armored combat vehicles (ACVs) produced by General Dynamics Land Systems, in current use by the US Army. ...The LAV III armoured vehicle (AV) is the latest (entering service in 1999) in General Motors light armoured vehicle (LAV) line. ...
