I believe you are not correct when you say yopu cannot claim, the capital loss when you transfer over to the TFSA.

When you transfer to the TFSA it is considered a point of sale.

If you bought at 1.00 (in a margin account) and sold at .10 you will have a capital loss of  .90 per share.

Then you buy back into yopur TFSA at .10

Then grows from .10 to 1.00 Tax free

However: If you buy it at 1.00 in the TFSA and it goes to .10 then you cannot claim capital loss.
