In advance of releasing its territorial budget next week, the Yukon government announced millions of dollars over the past two days for two road projects.
About $3.5 million will go towards paving Front Street in Dawson City, which is part of the Klondike Highway, Highways and Public Works Minister Archie Lang announced in a release Friday.
That spending is subject to approval from the territorial legislative assembly, Lang said.
On Thursday, Lang said $10.5 million from the budget will be spent on further paving and upgrading the Robert Campbell Highway, on top of upgrades made on the highway last year.
The mostly gravel highway, which runs between Watson Lake and Carmacks, provides access to the Cantung tungsten mining property on the Yukon-N.W.T. border and the Wolverine mining property closer to Ross River.
The funding announcements come as Premier and Finance Minister Dennis Fentie prepares to hand down what he has called "the largest budget in the history of Yukon."
Spending is expected to top $1 billion in the 2009-10 budget, which will be released March 19 in the legislature.
On a government website dedicated to the budget, Fentie has promised record spending on green energy initiatives, as well as infrastructure spending on everything from highways and bridges to water and sewage systems.
The budget will also have spending in housing, health care and education.
Yukoners surveyed by CBC News on the streets of Whitehorse on Thursday gave plenty of suggestions on where budget dollars should go, on everything from recycling to arts programs.
