ACTON, Mass., Mar 26, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NTRU Cryptosystems Inc., a leading provider of embedded security software solutions, announced today that it has licensed its Aerolink(TM) library to Sirit Inc. ('Sirit") for use in its Dedicated Short Range Communications ("DSRC") Packet Sniffer Test Tool.
NTRU's Aerolink(TM) libraries are the only commercial implementation of the IEEE 1609.2 security protocol. Use of Aerolink(TM) allows application and system developers to be first-to-market with standards-based security for the emerging Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure communications space. Aerolink(TM) has been tested on-road by major players from the automotive, RF, telecommunications and tolling industries, and works on multiple platforms and in highly stressed environments.
"We are delighted to announce this use of Aerolink(TM)", said Sheila Walker, Vice President of Business Development at NTRU. "The use of Aerolink(TM) in this important test tool demonstrates once again that NTRU is the leader in defining, implementing, and certifying security in vehicular communications."
Sirit's Packet Sniffer is a listening device used to independently verify transmitted DSRC data and protocols. It is the first device to verify IEEE 802.11p and 1609 standards based "Over-the-Air" transmissions, and is the first OmniAir-Approved Test Tool. "The inclusion of Sirit's Packet Sniffer moves OmniAir one step closer to achieving its goals for the DSRC community. We thank Sirit for its commitment as a key OmniAir member and capable advocate of DSRC. NTRU's Aerolink in the Packet Sniffer allowed us to test the vital area of security, which will be key to the public acceptance of DSRC and IntelliDrive" said Tim McGuckin, OmniAir Consortium Executive Director. OmniAir's mission is to develop and offer the means to provide conformance, certification and interoperability test services to increase confidence in DSRC technology and its deployment.
"The partnership with NTRU gives us the capability to develop the definitive test tool for DSRC," said Randy Roebuck, DSRC Director at Sirit. "With NTRU as partners, and use of the Aerolink(TM) libraries, we can for the first time test for full compliance with the entire suite of 1609 standards. This new tool should bring the deployment of fully secured vehicular communications one step forward."
"The sniffer was a very useful second set of eyes when debugging the Over-the-Air communication between vehicles and roadside installations during the recent VII Proof of Concept testing in Michigan, especially with Aerolink-enabled security allowing us to check signed acknowledgements and valid certificates" said Walt Fehr of WFET Group.
Sirit originated its work with the DSRC Industry Consortium with the responsibility of testing the developed technology against the emerging 5.9GHz standards. Currently, Sirit continues its RF Communications testing role in VII proof of concept development. Sirit participates in the IEEE and SAE standards development and several industry associations, such as IBTTA, ITS America and OmniAir. Sirit uses its field application experience to develop the RF test tools needed for the emerging 5.9 GHz DSRC technology.
The Aerolink(TM) libraries allow the user to secure data from all kinds of in-vehicle applications, including real-time traffic analysis, warnings of hazardous road conditions, high-speed tolling, automatic payment for parking, and possibly even remote ordering of meals from drive-through restaurants. They are currently available for license from NTRU.
