HOD is denominated in Canadian dollars. Any U.S. dollar gains or losses as a result of the ETFs investment are hedged back to the Canadian dollar to the best of its ability. In order to achieve this objective, the total underlying notional value of these instruments and/or securities will typically not exceed two times the total assets of the ETF. As such, HOD employs absolute leverage.

Wake Up Call

That sharp drop you all just witnessed shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Just a reminder of how quickly the sentiments on anything can change. The markets took a turn dragging Oil with it. I thought it might hit $60 first, and it still might this week (If the markets somehow turn green, then it could be today) - but don't think that Oil traders don't get spooked by this stuff and start whacking the bids, while going short.

Easy come, easy go.
