I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for NexGen as per Popular Mechanics article states:

The GPS-based NextGen system, slated for completion by 2025, will straighten routes (blue) and allow more planes to safely share the skies.

I like AFIRS chances of being a particpant in this plan , sending your GPS posItion in the sky we already do
no point re-inventing the wheel for that portion . I am sure AMA has thier lobbyists working on FAA on this one among others..
