You might also want to google the "Canadian Banking Ombudsman".
If you feel you are being taken to the "bank" by the bank, then contact these folks. You might also tell your bank you are considering this option if they don't back down and ALSO provide you with some compensation for your inconvenience, stress, etc etc.
I had a similar circumstance with BNS a few years back where they cancelled a cheque I issued because of what they said was NSF. That was not the case and after a month or so of frustration, I sent their head office a letter demanding 5k from them else I would pursue this further thru the Ombudsman.
They called me and offered me a $2000.00 settlement which I accepted.
