patents

patentsI have been researching this company, what it does, and its competitors. For example there is a company called Burcan Nutrascience ( BU) which is also working to develop canola protein --though they don't have a plant -- and it appears they have patented a differant manufacturing process.

I am trying to get a feel for the risks in investing in this company, and it leads me to the questions:
--Do they have patents or have they only applied for them?
--Is there risks that Burcan has already secured patents and they will contest or sue Bio Extraction for infringing on their patents? Any info would be appreciated.
