National Gypsum and Fundy Gypsum have done this at all their sites. I don't know if the capital of doing this would be any more than investing in their own mill. I like this solution because the current management doesn't actually have to invest in becoming gold refiners (skilled people, technology, day to day operations) to operate their own a mill, nor do they have to obtain environmental approvals and re-assessments to deal with cyanide, tailings ponds etc. as the Nugget pond facility already has those approvals. It gets them into the mining business really quick.
However as a NS resident, I don't think this is the best option for NS. :( Over time there are lot of good NS gold properties (many past producers) which should be re-explored and which look a lot like Orex. Having a mill in this area would be in the province's best interests and could spark an industry which has lay dormant for a century. For now I'll take shipping it out of the province.
